Which media is suitable for Class A and B fires?

Water

Dry chemical

Foam

Foam is best here because it tackles both solid combustibles and flammable liquids by cooling and separating fuel from air. When applied to solids, the foam blanket cools the material and smothers the flame, helping prevent reignition. On liquids, foam sits on the surface, forming a stable barrier that reduces vapour release and keeps the liquid from feeding the flame, giving you time to extinguish it. Water cools solids but isn’t suitable for liquids; dry chemical can work on A and B but doesn’t provide the same surface blanket and can leave residue; wet chemical is specialized for cooking fats and isn’t used for general Class A or B fires.
